I have an uneven top lip after Juvederm. Any suggestions? (photos)

Thank you for your question. It is very common for the lips to look
over corrected or fake the next day. I often tell my patients that this
is the "oh my gosh" day. This is due to all the swelling
that ensues. It may last a few days with every day showing a decrease
in swelling. The more you ice the first day or two, the less swelling
you will have. I would wait a few days to a week and then return to
your injector if you still have concerns after that. If you like the
look of the lips at some point during the swelling reduction, then take a
picture. This way you know what volume you like in the lips for the
future.

Swelling can definitely be asymmetric. Fortunately, it will resolve over the next few days (although sometimes it can take a week or two).

I would suggest icing for a few days and see if maybe its just the swelling, If your still unhappy about it go back to the Doctor who did the injections and see what they can do for you. Good Luck 

It is common to have uneven lip swelling this soon after lip filler injections. You can use cold compresses to the area to help reduce the swelling. The swelling should be resolved by 2 weeks and this would be the appropriate time to have your physician evaluate you if you still have concerns. Best wishes.

At three days, the most likely cause of the asymmetry is swelling. It is very common after lip injections as the tissues are so sensitive to the tiny needle pokes. Give it a week or two, and follow up with your injector around that time to ensure that your results are as even as possible.

Swelling  is a common side effect of lip injections and can take approx. 2 weeks to completely resolve. If after 2 weeks you are still concerned, schedule a follow up with your injector to have the area assessed. In the mean time, cold compresses for 10 mins several times a day, sleeping with your head slightly elevated and taking arnica montana tablets will help decrease swelling. Best, 

There still may be some swelling present 3 days after a Juvederm injection to the lip and the swelling is not always the same on both sides.  What you are seeing now is very likely due to swelling so I would recommend waiting a week or two for things to settle down.  If there is still some unevenness after a week or two, you should contact the physician who treated you.  

Thank you for your question. The best way to add symmetry to your lips is with a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, such as Juvederm. This will help make your left match the right side while looking natural. Also, hyaluronic acid fillers can be easily dissolved with hyaluronidase if you are unhappy with the results. Swelling in the areas treated with fillers in the lips can swell for up to a week or two following an injection session. While I would recommend that you use ice on the area and it is OK to watch this for now, if there is any pain to the area, I would suggest going back to the injector to allow him to make sure, in person, that everything is okay.If you are just totally unhappy, there is an antidote and your provider, if skilled, can inject medicine into that area to dissolve the area of swelling or the entire treated area. Again, your injector should be skilled and then he or she can recommend the best treatment plan for you — which may be nothing but watching at this point.

Dear BrittbuckI agree completely that you have some asymmetry due to more volume on the right side of your upper lip. The good news is that since it has only been 3 days since your injection, there is a good chance that this is merely due to swelling in that area. The lips are very prone to swelling after injection, more so than other parts of the face. Asymmetry after HA fillers like Juvederm can last for up to 2 weeks.Considering you had an extra injection in that spot, there is the possibility that additional filler was injected into the area, and perhaps it is not just swelling. Here are my thoughts: apply cool compresses to the area every few hours for the next 2 days, and gently massage the areaavoid salty foods for the next 2 weeks. Juvederm is a sugar molecule which holds onto water in your body. A low salt diet will help displace extra fluidif after 2 weeks you still note asymmetry, return to your physician. There is a medication called hyaluronidase that can be injected to dissolve the extra filler In either case, the asymmetry will likely not be permanent.I hope this helps!Best wishesDr S
