Shaving bump? As it is a septorhinoplasty will my nose change?

Question

I am a having septorhinoplasty next month. My nose is littke big with a bump, the surgeon said he will shave the bump as my skin seems thin. As it is a septorhinoplasty will my nose change ? I'm worried by shaving the bump it's going to look no different at all. Is there any pictures of it being shaved I can see as I can't find any and a clear idea

The septum is an internal nasal structure and, if deviated, can be straightened to improve the nasal airway. Rhinoplasty refers to changing the external appearance of the nose.  I would make sure you are comfortable having a discussion with your surgeon as to the goals and expected outcomes.  All of my rhinoplasty patients receive computer imaging of their photos to demonstrate a reasonable expected outcome.  I would recommend you go to a a Board Certified Facial Plastic/Plastic Surgeon that offers this so you can be sure of the plan.  Hope this helps.

A septoplasty is performed on the inside of the nose to improve airflow dynamics, and is performed only for medical necessity.  It will not change the shape of the nose.  A rhinoplasty is performed for cosmetic purposes to shave down the dorsal hump.  The dorsal hump is composed of both bone and cartilage which must be shaved down in order to remove it successfully.  Once the hump has been removed, osteotomies placed in the nasal bones were then required to close the open roof created from the hump removal.  Expect to pay for the cosmetic component yourself, while the functional septoplasty can be billed to the patient's medical insurance.  Both procedures can be performed together under one anesthesia with one recovery period.  For  many examples of hump removal  with closed rhinoplasty, please see the link and the video below
