Should PicoSure be used on hyperpigmentation on olive skin?

Question

I am a type 4 on the Fitzpatrick scale & developed cloasma when pregnant 12 years ago which has worsened over the years due to moving to a hot climate & although I wear sunscreen daily, my condition has got worse - I have dark patches on my cheeks & forehead...I have been for a consultation & the doctor recommends the Clear & Brilliant Laser... However, another clinic has recommended the Picosure... Will this be safe to use on my skin?? Many thanks.

PicoSure IS the laser for darker skin clients.   Other lasers tend to make the spots of people with Fitzpatrick skin type 4-6 darker!  However, treating hyper pigmentation, melasma is an ongoing process that requires patience, perseverance and consistency.  I'd recommend (in addition to Picosure), a daily skincare regimen that addresses hyper pigmentation, and chemical peels!  Chemical peels tend to be underutilized but is a great treatment to add to your armor.  Good luck!

Thanks for your question.  If your concern is primarily the brown hyperpigmentation, we would probably recommend the PicoSure FOCUS and / or Flat lens.  We like it because it is safe for all skin types.  It was worked well for most of our patients.  Our patients typically need a series of 3-5 treatments.  You will need to wear a medical grade sunscreen to help keep them at bay.  Best of luck.
