Which Peels are best for African-American skin?

I have noticeable patches of dark discoloration on my face due to now-healed eczema and a sprinkling of small, flat brown moles. I think a Vi Peel is the answer but I'm not sure. Which gentler Peels cause excellent results in African-American skin? What are their pros and cons?

I routinely do Botox followed by laser or peel treatments on the same day.  If you had a deep peel, its best to wait till the skin is healed to have another procedure done; but it likely will not cause any problems.  I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer.

You essentially performed a medium depth peel on yourself.  You will heal fine, but will likely become a little darker or lighter in the area for a short period of time.  You should avoid any scrubs, harsh topical creams, or any other peels for now; moisturize the area with a cream...

Most chemical peels such as fruit acids or TCA peels do not thin the skin at all. They take the top layers off and allow you to produce new skin from below so the total thickness never changes. The more peels you do then the younger you look as a rule. Sincerely, David Hansen,MD
