This is a good question. You will need to stay out of the sun (and indoor tanning beds) for the entire duration of your laser hair removal treatment, as sun exposure can lead to complications and hinder your final results. It’s also important that you don’t tan or use sunless tanning lotions right before your next appointment, as this can make it difficult for the laser to target the pigment in your hair. If you do need to spend time outdoors, make sure you cover up the treated area, hang out in the shade and wear plenty of sunscreen.
It's recommended to limit your sun exposure when undergoing laser hair removal, limiting tanning 2-4 weeks before and after treatments. Sun protection is essential. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
As a general rule we do not recommend sun exposure either immediately before or after laser treatments. It is best to wait at least two weeks in between exposure and treatment. You did not mention the kind of laser procedure you are interested having, but treating sun burned or deeply tanned skin with any laser is never a good idea. I hope that helps!
Thank you for your question. It is recommended to avoid sun exposure before, during and after any laser procedure to avoid pigmentation. I suggest making your physician aware of this so the appropriate adjustments can be made for future treatments. Best of Luck!
Thanks for your question – having any kind of laser procedure done on an area which may be exposed the day before a beach vacation is totally something that should never be done – never, ever. There should not be a provider of any laser procedure knowingly performing a procedure on anyone if they know someone is going to the beach the next day.
You didn't specify what laser treatment you are getting, but in general, it is best to avoid sun exposure a few weeks prior to and after laser treatment. Speak with with your dermatologist so they can review the details with you. Have a good trip- don't forget your sunscreen!
This is a good question. You do not say what kind of laser treatment you are having done. Different lasers target different structures in the skin. Cells that make pigment will react differently after they are exposed to sunlight and may cause the skin to hyperpigment or burn when exposed to a laser. I usually recommend my patients to avoid sun exposure at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after a procedure. If the skin is tanned, I recommend waiting until the tan is gone.
I am not sure what type of laser you will be having performed but it is best to minimize sun exposure before/after laser treatments. Make sure to discuss this with your provider so they can give you specific pre and post procedure instructions for your laser. All the best!
Laser can increase sensitivity to sun, and if you go out too soon after your laser procedure it is possible to get hyperpigmentation or burns from your laser treatment. Similarly, sun exposure (prior to laser) can increase the amount of melanin in your skin leading to laser burns. I recommend strict sun protection for 2 weeks before or after laser treatment.
