I m looking to have the facial thread lift, it’s quite pricey, I’ve heard they do not last as long as they say? Is one type better? Thank you for your help!
Answer: PDO Thread Lift Rocks! Hello and thanks for posting. I have not used the silhouette threads, but have close colleagues who have been disappointed because of the higher cost and marginal benefits. I have been using PDO threads since they were introduced into the U.S. market. I started with Novathreads, then transitioned to Rejuvn8, then Eurothreads, and currently am using HansBiomedical Mint PDO threads. In my opinion these Mint threads from South Korea represent a major advancement in PDO suspensory thread technology. They have fewer complications, are more robust, and are more cost effective. The mechanical lifting effect of threads may last several months, but the collagen stimulation, tissue contraction, and persistency of the overall benefit may last a year or two. Moreover, there is additional lifting and tightening in response to serial treatment with PDO threads. Overall, I would say that this technology is very effective and fills an important void in non-surgical facial, neck, and body rejuvenation. I hope that this information helps and best of luck to you!

Answer: Silhouette Soft and PDO Threads - both very effective At River Aesthetics we treat patients with both types Silhouette Soft and PDO threads. Both are very effective. It’s not as simple a case as saying one is better than the other, I would suggest it is based on what issues you are hoping to address, how lax your skin is etc. Silhouette Soft offers a fantastic, natural looking, instant result for people with mild to moderate skin laxity (as a guide we would suggest it suits people from mid-30’s – late 50’s) and is the treatment that we perform most frequently at our clinics. The results we achieve last 18 months to 2 years. Treatment with PDO threads is generally most effective for people with heavier skin, a greater level of drooping, and moderate to advanced laxity. The results we achieve are instant and last a similar length of time to Silhouette Soft. The price of treatments is dependent on the number of threads you need to address your concerns but compared with the cost and downtime costs (days off work) as well as the need for a hospital stay if you had a surgical face lift, this is a very reasonable alternative.

Answer: Silhouette Soft vs PDO thread lift Thread Lifting is an excellent way of lifting or repositioning the displaced superficial fat pads that lead to the naso-labial folds, marionettes ( sad mouth) and jowls leading to loss of jawline definition. Silhouette Soft technology uses bi-driectional cones made of Poly-L Lactic Acid which is a proven long lasting collagen stimulator which has been used for decades as Sculpra. The bi-directional cone technology creates a very strong anchor as well as strong lifting. The sutures breakdown over a year and the results can last upon to two years. There is good medical evidence for Silhouette Soft which is the only thread lift that has American FDA approval ( as Silhouette Instalift in US). Only doctors and dentists are able to train to use Silhouette Soft. PDO threads are made from polydioxanone an absorbable suture material which is degraded and broken down by the body within 6-12 weeks and thus the results typically only last three to six months. There is no evidence that PDO threads produce healthy Type 1 collagen. They can produce Type 3 scar tissue collagen from the traumatic process of insertion. All PDO thread lifts are unidirectional and this have very poor anchorage properties thus the results are often very short term and migration of the sutures leading to complications is not uncommon. Most are manufactured in Korea and China and there are many types and varieties with variable quality assurance. No PDO threads have the rigorous FDA license in the US. PDO thread lifts are often a cheaper option as the threads are now relatively inexpensive. However all the results from any thread lift is dependant on the skill and experience of the doctor or surgeon using them and the number that are used in the correct patients as many are not suitable for thread lifting. Get advice on the suitability of the treatment from an experienced doctor.
