Question

I had power assisted liposuction with tumescent to my hips and lower abdomen almost 5 weeks ago. My lower abdomen is lumpy , hard and has an indent , my surgeon says this is normal and to massage vigorously with arnica. Is this really normal or am I going to be left with a result worse then I started with? Please help!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

5-weeks post procedure is a good time for the swelling to have mostly subsided. however, it can take a bit longer in some cases. if the indentations and the lumpy areas have not subsided by the end of 8 weeks I would recommend you seek another visit with your doctor and have it corrected. sometimes fat grafting and microliposuction of the surrounding areas can solve the problem.

Although 5 weeks after liposuction is enough time for most of the swelling to go away, wait another 6 weeks, then reevaluate.If the dents and bumps still there then these are due to areas of taking too much fat and areas of not taking enough. Most patients will have the most firmness and bumpiness around three weeks after the procedure.At two months, things should be soft and looking even, though overall results will continue to improve for three to four months.Generally, at five weeks, results should look good, even though some improvements should be expected.It's possible you may need a revision.At this time, it is too early to tell.Continue to follow up with your plastic surgeon. The lumpiness and hardness after any type of liposuction typically persists at least 6-8 weeks after the surgery then slowly goes away. In my experience, daily massage of the hard areas makes the biggest difference in getting rid of it sooner rather than later. Hope this helps, Dean Vistnes.
