I had Tumescent Liposuction today, do I need to walk around the first day after surgery or just rest?

Reason I'm asking is because worrying of blood clots etc i know tomorrow I am to walk around a bit to have the fluid come out more but just wondering about today if I should just stay in bed or if I should be walking around

It is perfectly fine to be up and walking around the first day after surgery.  Just be sure someone is with you the first few times you stand up following surgery.  Some patients feel faint or light headed the first time they are up out of bed.  Walking will help prevent deep vein thrombosis and also prevent you from developing pneumonia following general anesthesia.Best of luck,

Thank you for your question.Yes, you will want to walk around, get up to go to the bathroom, carry a plate of food from the kitchen to the couch, etc...

To be sure, ask your surgeon specifically what his/her instructions are.

The day of lipo of course it is best to remain inactive. However the next day, I have encouraged my patients to begin a gradually increasing active lifestyle. A two mile walk at a comfortable pace is a good goal for the day after. One should avoid high impact exercises for one to two weeks. Ask your physician for recommendations that are personalized for you.

Depending on how much was actually done and your medical history, you might be at no, or minimal, risk for blood clots.  Walking around, however, is a good way to minimize that risk even further.  And there is little danger in doing so one day following liposuction.  However your surgeon knows best what he/she has done and what is in your best interest. So you are isest to mcontact your surgeon to be absolutely sure of what is best for you.
