6 months post-op, what can I do about painful raised red scarring? (Photos)

Question

I’m 6 months out and my scars are very red and raised. They started to look worse as opposed to better around 3 months. I don’t have itching but experience sharp short pain in them sometimes. I’ve spoke only to the nurse at my surgeons office and was recommended MEPITAC tape, should I be doing anything else are these keloid or going to get worse?

There are options to help minimize scars. Silicone scar sheeting, lasers, scar gel. Reach out to your surgeon for guidance on the best product/treatment to help this . Best wishes!

Hello, and thank you for your question. (Keep in mind that an in-person consultation is necessary for the best advice.) It has been 6 months since your surgery. Your body is still healing. Your incision/scar is maturing. Massage and scar therapies (e.g., silicone gels/sheets) may improve the appearance of your scars. Be patient, and follow up with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!
