What can I do for a swollen nipple that’s been swollen for years due to a nipple bar? (Photo)

Also it’s not sore and stopped growing. 5 years ago I got my nipple peirced and it got infected and never seem to go down. I tryed salt bathing it but it’s never gone back to the way it first looked. I was wondering if there’s anything I can put on it to reduce the swelling or if there’s any surgery I can have to cut off the growth.

Thanks for the question - it is difficult to say with out physically examining this area. I would consider a steroid injection into the lump areas if they are quite hard and keloid like. If it is that the area is soft but enlarged, then the option is to cut it away and reconstruct the defect. The method of recon would be determined following examination of the area to ascertain the amount of skin laxity present. I hope this is of some help  to you

Nipple reduction and shaping to make it symmetric with contralateral, normal nipple is the best solution. It can be done in local anesthesia with no downtime. In person evaluation is recommended. Good luck.

Hi and thank you for the question. It looks like you have formed a keloid scar. I think your best chance of improving the appearance of the nipple would be to remove the bar and excise the scar tissue. That could be done in the office under local anesthesia. Best of luck to you.
