I had an FUE hair transplant and it has been 1 year and 3 months since then, the left side of my head has grown in nicely but the right side has grown in very poorly and thin, I still have some of the hairs sticking up but they have not grown. I went to my surgeon and he said the area is inflamed which is why the hair isn't growing in and recommended me to get PRP and Kenalog injections, what are your thoughts on this?
Answer: PRP and steriods It is best not to introduce steriods when performing PRP injections. PRP purpose is to stimulate the immune system whereas steriods suppress the immune system.

Answer: Hair loss — spironolactone/finesteride, PRP/acell/exosomes, emeragecosmetics Restorsea spray, Viviscal, anteageMD stem cells you may need more transplant but yes you should have been and be doing PRP/acell and/or exosomes right now and during transplantation. also at home treatments (see link) such vitamins and topical stem cells. You need a formal evaluation to see what type of hair loss you may have. when you have hairless its best to do a full hormonal workup for internal optimization plus scalp biopsies or scrapings to rule out any stress related, inflammatory, autoimmune or infectious causes of hair loss. In general most people with early hair loss have telogen (stress related) and/or androgenetic (normal aging) and both can be treated with in office treatments like steroid injections, PRP/acell, Exosomes and at home treatments like oral medications, oral vitamins like Viviscal, topical exfoliating sprays like Restorsea, and weekly growth factors like anteagemd. See an expert for an evaluation. If hair loss is significant it may requires hair transplant (follicular unit translation).

Answer: Inflammation post hair transplant There are about 15 reasons for inflammation post hair transplantation but only a few of them really impact hair growth. In my opinion the area needs to be carefully examined and consideration given to a scalp biopsy. If there are no major concerns after the biopsy certainly steroid injections, topical steroids, topical or oral anti inflammatory antibiotics and PrP are on the table.

Answer: Decreased hair growth after hair transplantation Excellent question. In my personal opinion: decreased or poor growth is the most frequent complication following hair transplant surgery. No growth or decreased growth may be related to multifactorial causes. When I have or see a similar patient like you, my fist task is to performed a detailed evaluation of the scalp including a trichoscopy and some times a scalp biopsy ( remove a small area of skin to be sent to the pathologist), also a detailed medical evaluation about any disease, medications, etc. We see more and more patients with similar clinical cases that are related to scarring alopecias. The most important is to find the cause in your case. I will suggest to contact your hair surgeon again or book a consult for a 2nd opinion with a local an experienced hair loss specialist. Good luck.

Answer: PRP and steroids Steroids injected with PRP is not recommended. The effect of the steroid to reduce the inflammation would negate the effect of the PRP to create an immune response.
