Should I get IPL treatment with a history of facial herpes? (Photos)

IPL, (intense pulsed LIGHT), can activate herpes simplex. I would recommend pre-treating for 2 days with an antiviral and continuing the medication for a least three days. In my opinion, the intense pulsed light should do well for the capillaries. Depressed scars usually do not respond to this treatment and may need something to lift the scars such as subcision or infini. Acnescarnj.com

outstanding treatment for facial rejuvenation. It works by using bright light
to target and destroy pigment and redness in the skin. It is difficult to make an assessment without a
formal exam in the office where I can directly view the skin. However, I hope
the information provided here is useful.Any type of treatment on the skin may possible induce breakouts of Herpes simplex or cold sores. For my patients with a history of such conditions I have them take valacyclovir 500 mg by mouth daily for 7 days starting one day prior to a treatment.Please consult with a doctor for specific

IPL can cause a breakout of cold sores, as you experienced.  I recommend pre-treatment with an antiviral for two days prior and continuing for a total of five days.A series of 3-4 IPL treatments should nicely reduce your broken capillaries.  Be aware that you will likely look worse after each treatment due to increased redness and possible bruising.  Be sure to wear sunscreen at all times.IPL will likely not improve your scars.  Those can best be treated with a combination of microneedling, CO2 resurfacing and/or subscision.Best of luck to you.
