Hello..I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was on 1000 mg of Depakote and that me lose more than half of my hair. I stopped the medication for one month now but my hair Is still falling and thinning out? I would like to know if anyone have been through this experience gor their hair back after stopping the medication? And what can I do to re grow my hair. Thank you

You need to have a diagnosis of why you are losing hair before considering treatment.  Depakote "may" be a cause for hair loss but you may have a completely different cause.  You need to explore this with your doctor before proceeding.  If depakote was purely the cause it may take over a year before you notice regrowth.

Hair loss from depakote has been well documented.  You should meet with your prescribing doctor and find an alternative (hopefully you discussed stopping it with your doctor already!).  Your hair will likely grow back over a 6 month period.  If not you should see a specialist in hair to have this looked at.

This medication, used for seizures, is known to cause hair loss. You must speak with your doctor when you stop this medication and not do this on your own.
