Post procedure downtime can be very different for each individual patient. Some patients go back to work the next day, and others require 3 or 4 days off from work. We usually recommend 3 days off but if you feel well enough to go to work the next day you can definitely do that as well.
Recovery time from patient to patient can very drastically. Complete rest is recommended for the first 3 days in case of nausea, discomfort or moderate pain. Most patients are able to return to their daily activities within a week after the procedure (some even sooner). This does not mean that in some cases a longer recovery time may be necessary. Before opting for a procedure of this type it is important that at the time of the interview with the surgeon to discuss the recovery time and the same is able to grant you a medical leave if necessary.
We recommend patients take at least 3 days off before heading back to work. Every patient's body reacts to the Orbera balloon differently. Some patients may experience nausea and are unable to return to work for up to a week, while other my feel perfectly capable of returning to work the next day. It is important to rest and drink plenty of fluids for the first few days. Our providers prescribe medication with the goal of making the first few days of recovery as easy as possible.
We recommend taking a minimum of 2-3 days off from work. Most people will feel fairly nauseous during that time, and will want to take it easy, rest, and make certain they are staying hydrated. We've had patients return to work the day after their Orbera placement, but we typically discourage this and recommend preparing for the "worst case" scenario, which is up to a week of nausea. We provide medications and 24-hour support to guide you through any of these early side effects, but allowing flexibility in your schedule is a good idea.
In general, patients return to work within one week. There are varying degrees of abdominal spasms and nausea that may occur after balloon is placed, which, usually lasts 1-7 days. People typically return to work when these symptoms subside.
Thank you for your question. It is variable but we recommend at least a 2 day period of rest. The majority of patients are fine the following day, while a very few require more days to recover. Because you may be taking medications that can potentially make you sleepy and influence your reflexes as well as your mentation, it is prudent to allow a 2-3 day recovery. Best of luck to you
It depends on the person. I perform the procedure on Fridays. Usually by Monday the patient is back to work. Some patients tell me they felt fine after one day, others felt fine after two days.
I typically advise my patients to take 3-4 days off work as they may have nausea and need to focus on hydration. Most are back within a week for sure.
