I used to be very active and had a BA on 1/28/16 with 330cc silicone under the muscle (almost no breast tissue prior to op.) and ever since then I haven't been able to work out properly. It doesn't hurt anymore when I move around or sleep, but jogging and arm workouts etc are still painful. Is this normal? When can I expect to regain full mobility?
Answer: Painful work-outs 3 months post breast augmentation. Well, you CAN work out, it's just uncomfortable! As long as you increase the vigor of your activities gradually, wear a supportive (or two) exercise bra(s), and tailor your arm and upper body work-outs to the discomfort levels your are experiencing, this is entirely normal.Healing takes 6-12 months, as your still-pink scars (tender or not) will attest to. This is the same for your internal scarring. Assuming your implants move well and there is no evidence for capsular contracture, you are still not completely healed, your stretched muscles have not fully accommodated to the presence of the implants, and this all takes more time than most patients want, or surgeons want to explain. Let me repeat, it takes a full 6-12 months for healing to be "complete."By then you should be back to full mobility and "fighting form!" Take it easy and slow in the meantime. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

Answer: 3 months post-op from breast augmentation and problems working out Ideally, by three months, you would be able to work out without pain. However, the fact that you are still sore does not mean anything is wrong. Your healing process may take longer than others. You should, however, notice improvement of your soreness, even if it is slow. Contact your plastic surgeon and discuss this further. Good luck.

Answer: See your surgeon You should make an appointment with your plastic surgeon for an in person examination as the symptoms you are describing could indicate a number of things. Pictures would be helpful, but having your doctor examine you and prescribe further treatment is probably necessary. Good luck!

Answer: When to workout I'm sorry to hear that you have some persistent discomfort. However, I'd offer reassurance that this will improve over time and hopefully fully resolve. Scar tissue and healing evolve over the course of an entire year. Massage any firm or tender areas and continue to workout. The scar tissue should soften and stretch over time and eventually you should expect to be able to workout as you did prior to surgery. Best wishes.

Answer: 3 Months After Breast Augmentation Depending on how fit your muscles were prior to surgery, it may take you longer to recover than many other patients. If the implants are put under a very well developed muscle, the muscle takes longer to recover, as there is more muscle that must stretch and eventually relax before the implants settle into position. It is possible that an implant may be rubbing on a tender area that is causing more discomfort than usual. Have you expressed your concerns to your board certified plastic surgeon? I will often recommend massaging areas where the nerves are known to rest, which can help the discomfort subside. For my weight lifters and runners, I usually tell them to expect 10-12 weeks before the implants begin to soften and settle, which is significantly longer than the 4-6 weeks for most patients. Best of luck to you!
