Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery. Best,Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon
This particular birthmark appears to be fairly flat, which makes it not ideal for curettage (scraping). You might be able to see some lightening of it with laser, but the best way to remove it would be a simple surgical excision. If done right this will leave you with a fine linear scar that will fade with time. Best to get a formal consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to review your options. Best of Luck!
First of all you need a diagnosis, if this a small congenital mole, then you have 3 choices- leave it alone, laser, or surgery. I do agree that scraping it off is not ideal, as it may leave you with a scar. Excision will be best, however this will leave you with a longer scar than the mole itself. This area is also prone to keloid. Laser treatment is dependent on the dermatologist you see, some will attempt Q switch laser (multiple sessions), some will not treat this with laser at all. You would need an in depth discussion with your dermatologist to discuss the pros and cons of laser for this birthmark. RegardsDr Davin Lim Laser and aesthetic dermatologist. Brisbane, Australia

Thank you for your question. Fraxel can be in several different wavelengths. A Gentle Yag laser is ususally used to treat skin discolorations. My recommendation is to seek evaluation from an experienced laser practioner who has several devices to choose from. I hope this helps!
It isn’t totally clear what causes Melasma. Estrogen and progesterone sensitivity usually are associated with this condition. Birth control pills, pregnancy, and hormone therapy can all help trigger melasma. Some topical products we have found safe to use during pregnancy are Vitamin-C, A...
