Hello bbychula, It’s a pleasure to answer your questions! Every patient is unique and will have different healing deadlines. I usually recommend my patients to avoid tub soaking and/or swimming while sutures or drains are in place. Your surgeon may give you specific information on when you no longer need the drain and when it will be removed, but generally these are removed between 4-7 days after surgery, when the drainage output is less than 30 ml/24 hrs. It's recommended to avoid swimming or being in a bath tub when you have wounds that are still open since these wounds can get infected caused by Vibrio bacteria. Every case is different and you should ask your plastic surgeon when you can soak into the bath tub and/or go swimming. It’s always best consulting with your plastic surgeon about your specific needs and concerns. With appreciation, Dr. De La Cruz.
