hello olive55 Fat grafting is a generally safe procedure with few problems. Loss of volume after the procedure or increased volume with weight gain. Calcification can occur after any fat transfer procedure. I am not sure that the data has been collected on rate of calcification, and then the issue becomes whether that is clinically significant. By injecting small pellets of fat not much bigger than 1 to 2mm and leaving adequate space between each pellet. Large pieces of fat die before blood vessels can grow through them and either calcify or become liquified fat over time.
To avoid calcification, the transfer must be done in a gentle fashion and not overly fill the area so that the fat cells can receive blood from the tissue and live.
