Should a implant when removed have a foul over powering smell?

Had a back molar implant done by a dual certified perio and prosodonti st waited the appropriate amount of time then placed the crown on 2 months ago.i noticed some discomfort when eating I also noticed very slight movement from the crown.when I went to see him once he removed the cement covering the screw and removed the cotton inside there was a over powering foul odor. I asked if it was infected he said no and that it was quite normal to have that smell.is this true?

I presume the crown is no longer mobile.  In this case you may have experienced the bad oder from the cotton plug that was removed.  It is common for this to happen when there is some movement between the parts and fluids can infiltrate the area. I expect the plug was replaced and you should be fine.

From your description, it sounds like the screw holding the abutment and crown to the implant came loose and needed to be retightened. Since it was loose, it may well have had fluid and things seep underneath it that would cause the bad odor.Cotton pellets seem to retain this more than other screw covers because they are absorbent. I have switched to using teflon tape then sealing the hole and that has taken care of any odor problems. It should be fine for now but if it comes loose again, you might suggest this to your dentist.
