Hello, Thank you for your question and congratulations on seeking proactive options to improve your health. While the intragastric balloons are not an option given your surgical history, gastric sleeve surgery might be an excellent option for you. I encourage you to schedule Skype appointment with a bariatric (obesity) surgeon to discuss the best options in light of your current health and surgical history.Best regards,Dr. Moein
Hi, Unfortunately, you would not be a candidate for an intragastric balloon (including Orbera, Obalon, and Reshape). A history of stomach surgery of any kind is an absolute contraindication. This includes Nissen Fundoplication, which sounds like the type of hiatal hernia surgery that you had. You would still be a candidate for other forms of endoscopic weight loss, including AspireAssist and Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), depending on your goals.
Unfortunately currrently anyone with previous stomach surger, like Hiatal Hernia Repair or history of Lap-Band and or other Bariatric Surgery have contraindication and are not a candidate for Gastric Balloon. This is mainly due to increased chance of complications after such procedures.Remember that the FDA guidelines are for BMI of between 30 to 40 for Orbera Gastric Balloon!

Absolutely. It takes most people 3-7 days to adjust to the balloon, and to get over the initial nausea. After that, you may have an additional week or so of lingering nausea, but it is much milder. By 3 weeks post-placement, you should be feeling great and will be able to do whatever you like --...
There is no consensus on whether or not it is safe to get the Orbera balloon after a successful Nissen fundoplication. Some doctors believe that the Orbera balloon can interfere with the Nissen fundoplication and cause complications. Others believe that the Orbera balloon is safe to use after a...
