Is a burning sensation normal after tummy tuck surgery? I am only 2 days post op.

Question

I feel as if I have a really bad burn on one specific area of my incision. If I had to describe the pain it would be similar to that of someone burning me with a cigarette. It lasts for only a minute or so and is brought on upon standing, its almost unbearable. It goes away after I relax or sit down. Any suggestions as to what this is? I assumed it may be nerve pain.

This is normal and
caused by putting tension on the incision when you stand up. If you bend over a
little when you stand the pain should be better. This will improve over time as
your body heals. Best regards.

Hello, some patients can have significant pain in the early days after a tummy tuck.  When you stand up you may be stretching the skin and putting tension on the incision.  This usually get significantly better within the first week.  That stated, I would recommend discussing symptoms with your PS to ensure you are healing normally.

Thank you for your question.  A tummy tuck is a large surgery, leading to loss of skin and fat and tightening you to the point of being bent over for a few days afterwards.  With the incision that runs across your hip, combined with the stretch of skin that takes place, it is not uncommon to have some altered sensations across your abdomen.  These are normally temporary, but may last for several weeks.  It sounds as if yours is largely incision based, and likely from the tension closing it.  Be sure to continue to communicated with your doctor, as they will want to be apprised of any changes that take place
