What speed is best for microneedling pen? (Photo)

Question

Which speed should be used for microneedling? Is the fastest speed better than the initial slow setting? Is 36 pins better than 12 pins? I've attached some photos where my concerns are. What length do you recommend? Thanks!

I believe it's more important to find a provider that you trust in a reputable clinic.  You will find many different pens on the market.  We use 36 needles for those with acne scars and 12 needles for those looking to maintain results and stimulate collagen.   Best of luck to you.

There are several microneedling pens in the market with different needle pins. Depending on your skin texture and what your skin concerns and goals are, it is difficult to determine which pin would be best. Most of the pens also have depth control which would be most important in delivering the serum or prp to your skin for scar, skin textures, and pores. It is best to do a consultation to determine your goals and then determine how many sessions and if microneedling is best for you. Thank you, Chase Lay, MD

Slower microneedling needle tip speeds are mostly for beginners learning the technique. Faster speeds with more needles, in experienced hands, equates to both shorter treatment times and more skin perforations which causes greater penetration of topically applied serum and potentially better results. In published scientific studies, the optimal needle length for enhanced penetration has been proven to be 0.5 mm.
