Just like a microwave with a metal spoon, heating of the metal is an issue if the focal point of the energy is on the metal. In other words, the treatment pad should not be directly on metal and the grounding pads should be away from metal implants. While never a bad idea to check with surgeon who placed metal implants, this should not prevent therapy as long as energy of pad is away from / not near metal objects and the grounding pads are also not on metal implants.
