Thank you for your question! For my patients, I recommend they wear the surgical garments we provide for the first 3 weeks, 24/7, then an additional 3 weeks at night only. After the 6 weeks, there are no garment restrictions. Any type of spanx is ok to wear at that point. I hope this helps!
It’s best to ask your surgeon this directly. If they recommend that you no longer wear your compression garment after this time, you may not need to wear anything at all. However, if you feel uncomfortable and want to continue having some sort of pressure on the treated area, ask your surgeon if you can continue wearing your compression garment or other supportive garment, like Spanx.
Type of compression garment and length of wear depends upon surgeon preference. My patients wear an adjustable compression garment 24/7 for six weeks. Best to ask your plastic surgeon for his/her preference of garment after six weeks as surgeon protocols vary.Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Recommendations for compression will vary by surgeon preference. The key with compression is that it should fit evenly, feel supportive, but not be too tight. I encourage you to reach out to your surgeon for his/her recommendations based on your recovery.
I would recommend consulting with your plastic surgeon regarding the best surgical garment to wear in the post operative period. Your surgeon would know exactly what type of procedure you had and can therefore customize the recommendation. This is probably a question that can be answered by your surgeon's office over the phone.
Good afternoon, thank you for reaching out, an excellent question.Although every surgeon has their own routine, I prefer my patients to wear some sort of tight formfitting garment, Either a formal stage to surgical garments, Or a well formfitting pair of "Spanx", For four months after surgery to assist with swelling. In addition, if you had your muscles repaired (rectus diastasis), That it is even more important for you to have good support For at least four months after surgery.
Hello! Thanks for the question. Essentially it is important to have even, tight pressure around your torso after a tummy tuck with the right-fitting garment. As your swelling is subsiding, your body is creating scar tissue. Firm compression will help to achieve a flat contour. Best wishes!

Hi there There are two common causes of post- op swelling. The first is a fluid collection (seroma) and the second is oedema (general swelling in the tissues, like fluid in a sponge). Seroma doesn’t change during the day and needs a needle drainage to make it go away. Oedema will go away with c...
Hello. Great question. Thank you for your pictures. Based on your images it seems as you need to either visit your surgeon or another surgeon from your town to closely monitor your wound incisions. Best of luck with your recovery. Congratulations on your tummy tuck.
Dear Shelly1414, muscle spasms can occur in early post-operative period after tummy tuck and you can have some pain and discomfort. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice...
Thank you for your question! At 6 weeks post op, you should be able to lay flat on your stomach. I recommend discussing specific post op questions with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!
