I'm wanting to get saddlebags, full upper leg circumference, flanks and stomach done. Would this be too much at one go? Thanks.
Answer: Factor V Leiden and VASER Liposuction Hi there, I have treated numerous patient with Factor V Leiden. As long as you are worked up properly and have the OK from your Haematologist the risk should be relatively low. All my procedures are performed under local anaesthetic and IV sedation. Don't undertake too much in one setting. Split the procedure into 2 sessions - abdomen+ flanks and then a few weeks later the thighs. The option is also to have some injectable anticoagulants. Importantly remain mobile, hydrated and wear the VTE stockings.

Answer: Elective cosmetic surgery in patients with blood clotting disorders you will be at higher risk for developing blood clots with this condition. You should talk to your primary care doctor or Internet and most likely have a consultation with the hematologist first. Any plastic surgeon who is credible will want you to get medical clearance by hematologist. The plastic surgeon may need to take special precautions to minimize the chance of you developing blood clots. Liposuction it can be done without the use of General Anastasia. This is one option you can choose to lower the chance of developing blood clots from the procedure. I would start by having a discussion with your primary care doctor. You can also consult with a few local board-certified plastic surgeons to make sure you're a good candidate for liposuction. About 1/3 of the patients will consult with me for liposuction are not good candidates for the procedure and I would do better either not having liposuction or having a difference procedure. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

Answer: Factor V Leiden and liposuction Hi and welcome to our forum! You are at increased risk of DVT and PE due to the presence of factor V Leiden. Immobility after surgery and surgical trauma (especially to lower extremities) increases the risks. Being heterozygous lessens but does not eliminate these risks. A full discussion of relative risk can be provided by your hematologist. Your hematologist is your information source in this situation, allowing you to make an informed decision after examination / appropriate laboratory work. Best wishes...
