I have always been conscious of my smile. Ever since I was a child. My teeth do not show when I smile. I have consulted several doctors about this and they say that the distance between the bottom of my nose to the top of my lip is normal and if they were to reduce it, I wouldn’t be able to close my mouth. Please suggest what can be done. I have tried everything
Answer: Lip lift A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between your nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners. There will be no issues with closing your mouth. Best Wishes, Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Lip lift with muscle shortening It is very likely that lip lift with orbicularis oris muscle shortening would help your dental show. This can be done without significantly shortening skin portion of the upper lip. Good luck.

Answer: Options for hidden teeth when smiling If your teeth do not show when you smile, there are several dental and cosmetic treatments that might be considered. However, it's essential to first determine the underlying cause, which could range from the natural shape and size of your teeth and lips to your facial muscles' behavior when you smile. Here are some potential solutions: 1. Orthodontic Treatment: An orthodontist can help correct your bite and align your teeth, which may help them show more when you smile. 2. Cosmetic Dentistry: Procedures such as veneers, crowns, or bonding can change the shape and size of your teeth, making them more prominent when you smile. 3. Gum Contouring: If your gums cover too much of your teeth, a procedure called gum contouring can help expose more of your teeth. 4. Maxillofacial Surgery: In some cases, a surgical procedure may be necessary to adjust the position of your jaw or teeth. 5. Lip Lowering: This surgical procedure reduces the amount of gum shown when you smile by lowering the position of the upper lip. 6. Botox: Botox injections can be used to relax the upper lip muscle and allow more of the teeth to show when smiling. 7. Smile Design: A comprehensive approach that combines various dental procedures to create a perfect smile tailored to your face. Remember, the best course of action will depend on your individual circumstances, so it's important to discuss these options with a qualified professional who can provide personalized advice.

Answer: Teeth don’t show with smiling Dear shreja: You would see the greatest benefit by having veneers. Having said that, a little Botox to create a lip flip and possibly to relax the DAO muscles pulling your lateral lip corners down (I would need to examine you to determine this as your photos don’t show the strength of these DAO muscles) could be helpful. I recommend Bobby Vijay on 61st street for this procedure. Please feel free to reach other with additional questions! All the best from New York City, Sheryl Clark MD, FAAD
