What is the best treatment for dog ear incision after mole removal? (photos)

I had a large mole removed on my face- above my lips 6 months ago. The PS removed the mole using a punch biopsy. I was assured by the PS that they would flatten out but haven't and they don't look like they will. The PS recommends extending the scar further to solve the dogear problem but I am getting married in 3 months and don't want to be left with a worse problem on my face. What would be the best course of action at this point? Do lasers work?

I would agree with your plastic surgeon that extending the scar to remove the dog ears after your mole removal would be the best method of repair.

Thank you for your question.  If you have not seen any further improvements in the appearance of your scar to this point I would recommend excising the dog ears and placing the scar within the laugh line of your cheek.  This will lead to a good cosmetic result and will correct the contour irregularities.  Three months will also be enough time for the incision to heal sufficiently that any redness should be easily concealed by makeup.

Thanks for the question. At 6 months, I don't think that significant additional flattening of the scar ends will occur, especially on young skin. I agree that these dog ears should be excised and the scar slightly lengthened for a more natural contour. Combing surgery with laser resurfacing intraoperatively can give a superior cosmetic result.
