Will I need to remove my breast implants if I find out I have Sjogren's Syndrome?

I've been experienced dry mouth and dry eyes for two years. A year ago I got a breast augmentation without checking if I have Sjogren's Syndrom. In case if I do, will I need to extract my silicone breast implants (Mentor, smooth)? Thank you!

as long as you don't have any issues with your breasts, there is no need for removal of implants. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

For the past several years, women with implants have reported developing autoimmune symptoms that later improved when their implants were removed.If autoimmune disease runs in your family, you may be at increased risk of developing an autoimmune reaction to breast implants. Most of the concern has been focused on textured, not smooth implants; await the diagnosis from your board certified PS.

Sjogren's syndrome is usually an autoimmune disorder often strongly related to food allergies. I would suggest being checked for food allergies.

The choice to remove your implants or leave them in is up to you. There is no guarantee that if implants and/or capsules are removed that autoimmune symptoms in patients will improve.  I encourage you to discuss your concerns with your surgeon to help you determine what is best for you.
