Can I have PRP treatment for hair loss while I'm on a Beta -Blocker?

Question

I am currently taking a low dose Metropol (beta blocker) for chest angina. Is it ok to have PRP treatment for hairloss while I am on this? Thank you in advance!

There is no reason that you can't have PRP treatments while you are taking a bets-blocker.  To obtain Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) a small amount of blood is taken and placed in a centrifuge and spun down.  This separates its components into different layers.  The portion with the high concentration of platelets is then injected into the desired area of the scalp.  Platelets have small packets of growth factors within them.  Think of the growth factors like fertilizer.  The hair follicles are then exposed to the growth factors which are used as nourishment by the cells.  Beta-blockers work with certain cells in the blood vessels and the heart to lower blood pressure.  They have no effect on the growth of the hair follicle.

In  my opinion, there is no contraindication to using PRP with beta blockers. However, Beta blockers themselves have been known to induce hair loss in some individuals. I recommend that you find a PRP expert. Ask to see photos.

You can have PRP while you are on a beta blocker.  Are you also on baby aspirin?  This could make the procedure more difficult and "messier" from extra bleeding.

I am not aware of any contraindication but Beta blockers are sometimes associated with hair loss. Is there a concurrence in the onset of your hair loss with Metropol? Bear in mind that it would likely take several months for the Metropol to cause hair loss. If there is no association, then fine. If there is I  would suggest another medication be substituted before the PRP treatment. This could be all that needs to be done (and it will take at least 3 months to know if it was a factor). I see no point in having a PRP treatment if the cause of the hair loss is on-going.
