DianaI appreciate your concern and while physical exam is optimal, your photos demonstrate that you would most likely benefit from upper lip reduction surgery. Creation of a Cupid's bow, however is tricky, and can look unnatural. I believe that reducing your upper lip would benefit you more than trying to construct a Cupid's bow. The procedure is done in the office, under local anesthesia, and it takes about one hour. Recovery is usually one week, as postop, the lips are quite swollen. Check out the link below to an article I wrote about the procedure. Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon with lots of experience with lip surgery, good luck
It is certainly possible to adjust the shape of your upper lip through an injectable filler. Where the injection is placed will affect the shape of the lips. By placing emphasis on the points of the cupid's bow, it is possible to achieve the prominence that you are describing. However, do discuss the specific details with your doctor and try to provide some type of visual image to help illustrate the outcome you are aiming for. I recommend using a hyaluronic acid filler. Because your body already has this compound which can hold a lot of water, the results tend to look very natural. Furthermore, it is possible to dissolve the filler using an enzyme called hyaluronidase if you don't like the outcome of your procedure. Brand names of hyaluronic acid include Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Belotero. Each of these products has different consistency levels. Once your doctor has a clear idea of what results you want, he or she will recommend the best filler to use. I have included a link below with more information.
I would suggest you having a small amount of filler placed in that area to produce a cupid's bow through injection of Restylane. The surgery in this area usually leads to unnatural results. Please consult a board certified dermatologist with expertise with facial cosmetic injections.
In our case you can create a cupid's bow by removing a central segment of the upper lip vermilion. In others with smaller upper lip size, a central vermilion advancement would also work.
Yes you can get lip fillers, just ask your physician to use latex free gloves and do not worry. Use cannulas to limit complications. Best, Dr. Emer.
There is likely no risk to you if this is done, especially if done with a cannula, however, i suggest waiting. there is likely no reason why you would need to do this prior to having general anesthetic which would need access to your throat. I suggest waiting till after. Best, Dr. Emer.
You will be quite swollen for about one week, and sutures come out then. Be careful with that procedure because scars may be noticeable. Be certain to choose a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!
