Thank you for your question. Chin augmentation with dermal fillers is a great way to obtain chin projection, symmetry, and balance the facial profile. Appropriately placed fillers allow precise, custom augmentation with no downtime and very natural results. Fillers to the chin allow patients to achieve their aesthetic goal without having to 'go under the knife'. The most common side effects for chin augmentation with fillers are bruising and swelling, and even that is minimal. Voluma is generally my preference in the chin as it made of hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance found in our bodies), lasts up to 1.5-2 years, and is reversible. I find that this filler provides beautiful projection and a natural result. Bellafill is another, more permanent, option for patients who want results lasting up to 10 years. It is made of bovine collagen and polymethylmethacrylate microspheres. I usually inject Bellafill in 2-3 sessions to ensure accurate results are achieved without over-injecting. I advise my patients to start with Voluma so that they can see how they like the results and to provide a roadmap for the desired outcome if they choose to graduate to the permanent filler in the future. I have had many patients that are beyond happy that they choose the filler route for their chin augmentation, as opposed to surgery. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Always seek out an expert injector for your care.
