How long do Chin Fillers last?

Thank you for your question. Chin augmentation with dermal fillers is a great way to obtain chin projection, symmetry, and balance the facial profile. Appropriately placed fillers allow precise, custom augmentation with no downtime and very natural results. Fillers to the chin allow patients to achieve their aesthetic goal without having to 'go under the knife'. The most common side effects for chin augmentation with fillers are bruising and swelling, and even that is minimal.


Voluma is generally my preference in the chin as it made of hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance found in our bodies), lasts up to 1.5-2 years, and is reversible. I find that this filler provides beautiful projection and a natural result.  Bellafill is another, more permanent, option for patients who want results lasting up to 10 years. It is made of bovine collagen and polymethylmethacrylate microspheres. I usually inject Bellafill in 2-3 sessions to ensure accurate results are achieved without over-injecting.  I advise my patients to start with Voluma so that they can see how they like the results and to provide a roadmap for the desired outcome if they choose to graduate to the permanent filler in the future.  Chin fillers are an excellent alternative to chin implants, if using a hyaluronic acid based filler they can easily be dissolved using Hyaluronidase if you are at all unhappy with the result so definitely a good option for seeing what you can achieve. If you are happy you may then continue with the filler or essentially as you 'try before you buy' and you can move on to a permanent chin implant. . The results will last anything from 12-18 months depending on choice of filler.

Your strategy is excellent in trying a filler before or even instead of committing to invasive surgery, such as chin implantation.  The fact is, each person responds to fillers differently, which affects how long the filler lasts.  Fillers are divided into temporary [several months or more], semi-permanent [months to years], and permanent [several years or more].
The basic 'HA' or hyaluronic acid filler is considered 'temporary', and may be a good choice because it is the world's most commonly used type and is considered the safest by many.
