Laser treatment under eyes. Can it destroy fat cells and create hollowness?

Resurfacing lasers, even the most aggressive, are designed to penetrate only as deep as the mid-reticular dermis to stimulate new collagen formation. This means that the laser does not even penetrate the full thickness of the skin. In order to affect deeper fat cells, damage would need to extend into the subcutaneous layer and deeper tissue planes of the lower eyelid and infraorbital region.That was a long-winded build-up to the answer to your question: no, fat should not be altered during laser skin tightening. The laser settings are predetermined and usually penetrate only 100 microns. The heat is localized and has no effect on the fat. There will be redness for a few days to weeks. It is best to discuss your concerns with your surgeon.
