I was told by a few doctors that even if I reach my goal weight (125lb, I'm 175 right now) I will still need a tummy tuck. Unfortunately, I have a one year old and can't afford/find anyone to help me during recovery. Is it worth doing other treatments in the meantime, for example, liposuction on my abdominal area?
Answer: Abdominal evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, you are a better candidate for a tummy tuck with liposuction. Liposuction alone will leave you with more hanging skin. A tummy tuck can be done through a low and short incision, all completely below the bikini line. The belly button can be designed to look natural and have no scars on the exterior. Your muscles can also be plicated resulting in a flat abdomen. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Tummy Tuck Candidate But May Consider Liposuction Thank you for your detailed question and corresponding photos. Based on your photos, I think a lateral tension abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) would give you the most desirable result. Alternatively, laser liposuction of the abdomen, flanks and back can help remove some of the fat and tighten the skin, however you will still have loose skin and will not be completely flat. If you want a temporary fix until you have the downtime to recover from a tummy tuck, I think this would be a good option for you. I recommend seeing a board-certified plastic surgeon for an in-person consultation to discuss your goals and a treatment plan that is right for you. At our practice we also provide consults via FaceTime or Skype for patients who live outside of NY. For more information, please visit our webpage.

Answer: Liposuction may be a good option for you if a Tummy Tuck isn't possible I think you'd be happiest with a tummy tuck but it's not for everyone. There is a long recovery and scaring with a tummy tuck. Although liposuction doesn't tighten the abdominal muscles like a tummy tuck does, people are still happy with their procedure as long as they are on the same page I am as the plastic surgeon. I prefer Tickle Lipo which can tighten the skin and the same time as removing fat. If you have too much excessive skin than liposuction may not be able to tighten up your skin enough to give you the results you want. Talk with a board certified plastic surgeon to make sure you're on the same page with him or her before deciding on any procedure.

Answer: Skin tightening for the abdomen--Tummy tuck, VASER HI DEF 4D Liposculpture, ThermiRF, fat grafting, vanquish Non surgical options give only mild improvement compared to a hi definition procedure. A hi definition liposuction like a VASER HI DEF combined with ThermiRF which can be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck, would give the most improvement. Other options for skin tightening would be a combination approach with vanquish, venus legacy, exilis, celllutone/Zwave. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a high definition physique expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Lipo for Now kkmio201. Diet and exercise is first option. Liposuction will decrease bulk and may even allow you to go down one dress size, but Tummytuck will give you most dramatic result. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to help guide you. Good luck!
