Question

2 weeks ago I went to another clinic For lip filler. She was so shocked at how the chin filler was injected so she massaged it for me. A few days ago I woke up with an incredibly swollen chin on one side. I went back to the first Injector who prescribed antibiotics (fluxocilin then doxycycline) The swelling has gone down but it feels rock hard. Now I see a little wide nodule which has formed inside my mouth. Whats happening?

It is unlikely the filler migrated. However, I recommend following up with your injector. If necessary, the filler can be reversed with hyaluronidase. Hope this helps.

Your story and the timeline suggest that you developed a granuloma, very likely biofilm related. I have personally found the injection of proper concentrations of an anti-inflammatory agent and the administration of appropriate oral antibiotics (and occasionally the injection of hyaluronidase) are sufficient to lead to the complete disappearance of the type of rock hard nodule you describe. Nonsurgical chin augmentation and lip augmentation are advanced injection techniques that should not be left to the hands of novice, medspa-type injectors accustomed to injecting simple Juvederm or Restylane into ordinary smile lines. So as an aside, I would strongly urge you now and going forward to seek consultation and treatment by a board certified aesthetic physician with experience and expertise and of course make sure to ask to see his/her personal before and after photos of any areas you wish treated. First words of advice, stop jumping to different clinics. Find yourself a doctor you trust and stick with them. Advice number 2, fillers do not travel, but it is possible that you did develop an infection and it will simply take some time to resolve. Good luck from New York City
