I'm a 31 year old female with under eye hollows/tear trough deformity. I've had them for as long as I can remember, but they have gotten a bit worse, most noticeably when I smile. I hate the deep groove/wrinkle that now appears when I smile now in photos. I've been considering getting under eye fillers for some time but am so scared about it. I'm getting married in a year and am wondering if I should do it now--would fillers improve the "groove" that I hate so much?

Answer: Fillers for tear trough Fillers are an excellent choice for improving the hollowness of the tear troughs. They should be done only by an experienced injector. A common complication with this procedure is a blueish discoloration under the eyes. It is referred to as a tindle effect (or Raleigh scattering). This occurs because of shallow injections, the product used and the lack of experience. In my practice I prefer to use Belotero for tear troughs. Due to its irregular molecular size it has less tendency to cause discoloration, and has a very smooth result. Restylane and Juvederm are fine products as well.

Answer: Filler for tear trough Thanks for your question. From what I can see in the photos you might be a good candidate for a filler to help correct this area. In my practice I often select Restylane to get the job done. Injecting in this area, however, is considered an advanced technique with some special potential side effects to consider. I strongly recommend seeking out a well trained and experienced physician injector to treat you. Best of luck!
