How much weightage should be given to office response time and organization when picking a surgeon?

I am considering a surgeon who seems pretty good at what he does. He is out of state and I have had a very tough time dealing with his office/admin team. They seem disorganized , unresponsive and slow. Its frustrating as a lot of my travel booking and work time off decisions depend on the office's responsiveness. I am already 1 month late from my planned surgery day.

Hi there! Sorry you're having trouble with your surgeon's office. Response times can certainly vary depending on how busy the practice is and staffing issues. Sometimes, calling works better than emailing. If you feel uncomfortable with the attention you're being given, perhaps seek out another option. Hope you find resolution soon!

Scheduling a surgical procedure depends upon the availability of the surgeon and of the facility in which he / she works. A busy surgeon may be "booked" far in advance. Surgeons experience "busy" spurts that come out of the blue. 
There are occasionally instances where a surgery is scheduled, but there may be staffing problems in the office or in the operating facility which can result in delay requiring rescheduling.  
The front office staff should be forthcoming with explanation of the reasons for the delay. Try calling again and be persistent for their answers. 
A poorly functioning front office does not in any way imply a poor surgeon. You may wish to discuss your pconcerns directly with the surgeon when convenient (perhaps a postop visit).
