Is it possible for fillers to travel to other body parts?

Question

Hi. Is it possible for hyaluronic acid fillers to travel to other body parts through the blood system if injected into a vessel? I had restylane injected in my face without knowing I was pregnant. Would the filler cause a clot and stop in the heart before reaching the uterus is so? Or could the filler travel all the way down to the fetus without noticing? I cant notice anything unusual after my treatment.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Any skilled and experienced doctor will know if filler was injected into a vessel. In the first place, they should know where to safely inject filler. That said, while injecting filler into a vessel can cause occlusion, it is quite very rare for it to reach the heart. For more information, I highly recommend only seeking consultations and treatments from experts like reputable, experienced injectors who can address all your concerns, explain all possible risks, and ensure the safest treatments.

I have good news for you first yes a droplet of filler into a vein or artery could float along the vessel and create an occlusion down the line. Its very rare for it to get to the heart and would require the filler to be placed in a large vein.
the good news these horrible instances are rare and immediate so your already out of danger. The filler will not suddenly move into an artery or vein after that time. I wouldnt worry about the filler going to the uterus either at this point.
