Would rhinoplasty elongate your Philtral columns? The Philtral columns are the raised portions of the center of the lip which extends from the base of the Columella to the peak of cupids bow on each side. Technically a rhinoplasty does not change the actual size of those columns. However in people with very long noses, in whom the tip of the nose obscures the upper portion of the upper lip, elevation of the tip allows the full upper lip to be seen which may make it appear to be longer. But it is not actually longer , you are just seeing the whole lip rather than just the lower portion of the lip. In the early postoperative period there is some stiffness and swelling of the upper lip which may make it appear actually longer in the short term, but this is temporary.
