People often comment that their upper lip got longer after rhinoplasty. THis rarely occurs. What append is when you have a drooping nasal tip or long columella (the section between your nostrils) are lifted, you see more of the upper lip. There are techniques to elongate the upper lip, but if that is not your desire, it should not happen.
The philtrum is sometimes lengthened when a large hump is removed and the tip is raised . In your case it probably wouldn't be by much.
Would rhinoplasty elongate your Philtral columns? The Philtral columns are the raised portions of the center of the lip which extends from the base of the Columella to the peak of cupids bow on each side. Technically a rhinoplasty does not change the actual size of those columns. However in people with very long noses, in whom the tip of the nose obscures the upper portion of the upper lip, elevation of the tip allows the full upper lip to be seen which may make it appear to be longer. But it is not actually longer , you are just seeing the whole lip rather than just the lower portion of the lip. In the early postoperative period there is some stiffness and swelling of the upper lip which may make it appear actually longer in the short term, but this is temporary.
Hi and welcome to our forum! The philtrum is the vertical groove extending from the base of the nose at midline to the area between the peaks of Cupid's bow of the upper lip.Rhinoplasty should have no effect upon philtral length. The philtrum lengthens with age. A long philtrum creates an aged appearance.Visit a board certified plastic surgeon for evaluation, examination, and discussion.Best wishes...
