1 year post-op FUE transplant. Would you consider this a failed procedure? (Photo)

I had an FUE transplant well over a year ago, and these are my results. The surgeon maintains that the surgery was a success, and that nothing more could have been done. However, I am extremely disappointed in the result (I see more scalp underneath than hair), so I am at a loss on what to do...I see this as a failed procedure and am extremely saddened.

I think "failed" is a strong word to describe the results. Without the benefit of a full consultation, what I can tell you is that there might be a few things playing a role in your dissatisfaction with your results. The first is that it is very important that the surgeon performing the transplant discusses with you the expectation of the results. I spend a lot of time with every patient making sure he/she knows what to expect from the procedure, and, if it is the case, even expect that a second procedure will be needed before the final density is achieved. Also, there could have been problems with the grafts during the procedure. Excessive density (dense-packing) of grafts in the recipient area can cause hair not to grow well. Either way, your situation can be corrected by adding more hair for more density.

Thank you for your question. The typical result will hinge on how many grafts were transplanted. For thicker hair, more grafts are needed, and sometimes surgery is done in stages for this. I hope this is helpful, and all the best.
