Exfoliating or not before first TCA treatment?

Hi, Next month I will have my first 12,5% TCA treatment. What about the pre-treatment with exfoliating and glycolic cream? Does it make the peeling safer or just more dangerous? Will the exfoliating and glycolic cream the skin more or less prone to burnings and hyperpigmentation? Thanx

In many cases, a dermatologist might recommend pre-treatment with gentle exfoliating agents, like glycolic acid, to help prepare the skin for the TCA peel. This pre-treatment can remove dead skin cells, promote an even peel, and potentially reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

However, it’s essential to strictly adhere to your skincare professional’s guidelines, as using products too close to the peel date or using products with high concentrations can increase the risk of adverse effects, including burning, hyperpigmentation, or other complications.

I recommend reaching out to the provider you are seeing for the peel as the provider and the peel brand may have different pre and post peel protocols.

I would prepare your skin with gentle exfoliants, especially retinoids followed by HQ combination creams. A single acid chemical peel is not as effective as a Melapeel which contains multiple acids in one.
