Orbera Balloon, can I get it with a BMI of 27 in the US?

Question

Can I have Orbera baloon with BMI 27?I know in Europe BMI 27 is enough for the procedure, but not in USA.Can I have it done?I tried everything to lose 20 lbs-it is impossible I guess;-(((((I WOULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE HERE IN USA TO HAVE THIS PROCEDURE.

Yes, you would still be considered a potential candidate for Orbera. While Orbera is only FDA approved for individuals with a BMI of 30 to 40, it can be used "off-label" for people who fall outside of that range, assuming that it is the right treatment option and that there are no contraindications to the treatment.

Thank you for your question. While the FDA approved the BMI to be between 30-40, there are exceptions to be made that would allow you to undergo balloon placement. That would require a more specific consultation. Best of luck
