Will my teeth move whilst I wait two months for my new retainer??

Hello there,Great job at wearing your retainer for 4 years straight.  Typically, the top teeth will move a lot slower than the top teeth, so the fact that you still have your bottom retainer is great.  The top could move very slightly, but this is less probable, sine you've worn your retainer for 4 years.  If there is any movement, it is not likely that you will visually notice it at all.  If you happened to find your exact top retainer two months later, it would likely still fit, but be very snug and possibly cause you a little pain for the first day or two.  This shouldn't be a problem when you return to your dentist, because he'll make a new retainer.  Hope this helps.Dr. Sarah Thompson  

Hi there.  In my office, before we start a large case, I'll have the patients not wear their retainers for a few weeks letting the teeth relapse a little.  Then once the permanent restorations get cemented - there is little movement that will occur.  If the veneers were done right after you stopped wearing your retainer - than yes - movement can occur quite quickly.  Even to the point where the veneers may chip and crack.  I would try to see your dentist as soon as you can to get the new retainer if that's the case.  Good luck!!

Hi:I believe there is a high possibility of teeth movement in the absence of a retainer for two months.  My suggestion is to get a retainer ASAP.  I have seen movement in some cases in as little as 1 to 2 days.Best,Dr. Maddahi
