Answer: Thinning Hair -- Rogaine, Propecia, Viviscal, Progesterone, PRP Thinning Hair -- Rogaine, Propecia, Viviscal, Progesterone, PRPIf you have thinning hair you really need an evaluation to see if it is genetic or from another cause like stress or autoimmune. If it is determined to be genetic there are many options and traditional treatments like rogaine foam and propecia pills can be used. I have great success in my practice using injectable progesterone and prp to the scalp. Postmenopausal women also benefit from spironolactone. I suggest seeing a dermatologist with expertise in hair loss. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Balding at a Young Age Your hair loss is currently class 5 on the Norwood scale and it is likely to progress. Family history of hair loss from both sides of family can be of predictive value. A medical rather than a surgical approach is very important for you at this stage. Finasteride is very effective in the crown area as long as hair loss is treated earlier rather than later. Occasionally, I see some patients have improvement all over rather than just the crown area. Once the crown area is completely bald finasteride does not work nearly as well, so the earlier the better. Rogaine, which is minoxidil also is helpful but not nearly as effective as finasteride. You should stop smoking if you area smoker. Eat a clean, chemical free diet as possible as this effects overall hair thinning. Seeing a dermatologist to rule out other aggravating conditions may be of benefit.

Answer: 23 and losing hair Your biggest enemy is the progressive thinning leading to a balding patter. The degree of thinning that you are showing would suggest that you should see a doctor who most likely will get Bulk Measurements of your hair to determine the degree of the thinning that you are presently having. If the diagnosis is early genetic hair loss, then the best treatment would be the drug finasteride which is highly effective in men of your age and may not only stop the hair loss but possibly reverse it. If you are developing a more advanced balding pattern the the best test to get will determine the Bulk Measurements of your hair and this will show, over a one year time frame, how effective the treatment will be. Once you know this information, then you and your doctor need to develop a MASTER PLAN which will define what you need to do over the years to come.

Answer: Hairloss Hello, you have a fair amount of hair loss for your age. It appears you are headed to a Norwood Type 6 or 7. Assuming this is male pattern hair loss, as it appears, I would strongly consider Finasteride and Minoxidil as your first line treatment. You might also consider a laser cap and perhaps PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy at some point. I would urge you not to consider any type of hair transplant surgery at this time. It will not serve you well in the future.
