Is it possible to only have alopecia aerata in eyebrows?

Diagnosed with AA in eyebrows 5 years ago. No thinning of scalp hair at all in fact scalp hair thick and in excellent condition. Eyebrows continue to thin, has grown back at times but never so thin as recently.

Yes, alopecia areate can be limited to the eyebrows.  A steroid injection can help resolve this situation in many but not all individuals.  One should not inject a high concentration of steroids for alopecia areata because this can cause depressions of the skin.

It is possible to have "isolated" AA in the eyebrows albeit it is not common (without scalp AA to develop over a 5 year period). There are a few reasons other than alopecia areata for "isolated" eyebrow loss. If you are over 50, another diagnosis may statistically be more likely (ie frontal fibrosing alopecia). If not improving or the diagnosis is at all in question, please see a dermatologist.

Yes, you can develop alopecia in the eyebrows only, for that matter, any place where you have hair you could see it locally.
