It is customary to pay in full before any cosmetic surgery. This is one reason why it is important to research your surgery and choose your surgeon wisely. Be sure to look at a lot of before and after photos and ask a lot of questions, if you're comfortable and confident with your surgeon then you shouldn't be concerned about paying in full ahead of time. This allows us to make sure we have the surgery booked and everything ready for you. If you are still worried ask your surgeon what they will do if you are unhappy with the results after having already paid for everything.
Chris1993,It is customary for surgeons to collect the payment prior to surgery, but this is not to cheat you in any way. It is actually for your benefit, so everything is paid and prepared for beforehand, including the surgery equipment, garments, nurses and any other assistance that might be needed at the time of your surgery. This is simply to help things move more smoothly, and to trust this I recommend finding a surgeon you trust in case of an incident when something goes wrong as you mentioned.Best of luck!Dr. Ali Sajjadian
Dear Chris1993 in Nashville; There are two points worth understanding. First, there are several reasons you maynot have considered.Regarding your question, “What makes a surgeonaccountable if something goes wrong if they already have your money?” That's the first time I have ever seen thatquestion posed and a very wise question it is. it's a one-word answer: Integrity. Ethical surgeons -- and the great majority are -- are obliged morally and bythe traditional ethics of the profession to stand with the patient regardlessof what happens, and there is no additional charge for this service. It is very important that you feelcomfortable with the surgeon because, if you feel the surgeon is notconscientious, attentive and likely to not bolt in case of a problem, then youare in the wrong office. That's whyconsultations are very important, particularly since you need to gauge thepersonality and attitude of the surgeon. The consultation is a very important personal interaction in which you are about toengage.Patients are relaxed and comfortable when the operationis scheduled and that all arrangements have been made because they have paidfor the procedure. In a sense, it isnot unlike other transactions in life. You engage a service and plan on the service and expect that the serviceis fulfilled.Best wishes,Robert Kotler, MD, FACS
For cosmetic / non insurance covered surgeries, it is standard to have payment before surgery. My office collects 2 weeks before. Insurance surgeries are not usually collected up front because no one really knows how much the insurer will pay and how much the patient will be responsible for. Surgeons are accountable wether they have your money or not.
Is it customary to receive payment in advance for a rhinoplasty. Discussions with your surgeon is critical to achieve your goals.
Yes, cosmetic (elective) surgery is paid in full prior to the procedure. Research doctors before setting a date and paying any non-refundable fees. Ask to see before and after photos of their work. You can also ask to speak with references. Once you feel comfortable with the chosen surgeon - it will be easier to make a prepayment. Mark Petroff, MD
Cosmetic surgery is prepaid. If you have concerns before your surgery then you should postpone. If you have concerns after surgery then your doctor should work with you.
It is customary in the Plastic surgery industry to pre-pay cosmetic surgery prior to the date of the surgical procedure, so that you hold your place in the operating room, the surgeon's scheduled out of the clinic and booked in the operating room, and the anesthesia provider is also booked at a time to be there. There are also several nurses must be available to be involved in the direct patient care which also needs to be scheduled weeks in advance of surgery. The cost of the operating room and anesthesia is directly related to the length of time it takes to perform the procedure. There are also third-party financing companies available to help finance the procedure
No matter the cosmetic operation ALL fees are fully paid at least 2 weeks to 10 days prior to surgery. In over 35 years of practice that is the standard.
Dear Chris1993,Yes, typically surgeons will collect the fees upfront, about 2 weeks prior to surgery. This is not to "get you for your money" rather to ensure that your time slot for the surgery is held, supplies and necessary garments (if applicable) are ordered, nurses, scrub tech and first assist are booked and paid for their time, etc. It is important to build a relationship with your PS so that you know and feel comfortable with them. Hope this helps.Best of luck!
Great question and thanks for sharing your photos. The first most important message is to stay in close contact with your doctor. He or she can really be your best source for information and probably knows your anatomy better than anyone at this point.Next, I do think this is very early in...
After 2 months, you should be fully healed. Check with your surgeon to be sure there are no issues with your healing and then any treatment which resolves the issue should be OK.
The timing of a rhinoplasty procedure is an important detail, and one that is completely up to you. There is no benefit to having it done over winter break versus after you graduate high school, and just comes down to your personal preference. After 2 weeks, you would be ready to return to...
