Just had my facelift yesterday, no problems. Dr. Petroff said he thinks I’m going to be pleased. Going back to the office today to have my dressings removed! Excited, no pain so far, just taking Extra Strength Tylenol. Everyone at the surgery center super, nursing staff and anesthesiologist!
I love my new nose and its all thanks to this Dr. I used to hate taking pictures because i would fixate on my nose (as a kid i was teased for having a big nose) but not anymore. I actually have a cute nose now and its only been 3 months (it will fully set within a year is what i was told. From the very beginning Dr Petroff was on the same page as me. Everyone at his office treated me kindly and with respect i was really really anxious. He even fixed my airway (one side was crooked)so i can breath better now. My sister loves my nose soooooo much that she is going to set an appointment with him as well.
Dr. Petroff and his team were so kind, caring, and courteous throughout my whole medical experience with the clinic. It was clear that everyone was genuinely considerate of my desires and needs, and the results were all I ever wanted. I would definitely recommend Dr. Petroff to others, and am so grateful for him!
I chose Dr. Petroff first because he is double certified, so not only do I have a beautiful nose but also a functional nose. The second reason I chose him is, because he creates a nose that fits your face not just the same nose for everyone like I have seen with other surgeons portfolios! I love my new nose! I used to run away from getting my pictures taken because of my large hideous nose but not anymore! Dr. Petroff and his staff are top notch 100% the best and I recommend them to everyone!
I'm going in for a rhinoplasty on 1/3/19. I'm 41 and some people don't understand because I have had this nose for 41 years now. But, I feel like it's time as I'm starting to show age in my face and my nose definitely looks like it has grown! I'm scared to death of the recovery process! I will post photos and a review of my doc after surgery. Updated on 2 Jan 2019: Tomorrow is the big day. I didnt think I would feel a little sad about saying goodbye to my nose that has been a part of me these past 41 years. But I am. I took a last photo so I can compare as I go through the healing process. On another note, I came down with a chest cold but my doctor is not concerned, which I find to be odd. I'm sure it will be fine. Updated on 3 Jan 2019: I'm done! Just got home from surgery and my gosh. It could not have been a better experience. I was awake nearly the entire procedure but was given a mild sedative. No nausea. No pain. Came right home and started eating. I was scared for nothing! Updated on 4 Jan 2019: Some slight bruising and minimal swelling. No nausea or pain. I have only taken tylenol because the nurse told me to take at least that. I seriously feel like I could go to work today. I've had 10 surgeries and this was by far the easiest. Worst part was my anxiety. Updated on 5 Jan 2019: Even though I can breathe through my nose, I'm not doing well sleeping elevated and on my back. I woke up today feeling very dizzy. My chest cold is nasty and I keep coughing up gross stuff which is probably why my stomach is so sick. The swelling has also taken over my whole face. I keep icing but the swelling is stubborn. Updated on 8 Jan 2019: I'm in full regret mode. I haven't even gotten the splint removed and I already think I'm going to look terrible. I'm pretty sure this feeling is normal, but I'm over it. I posted a couple of photos of before and after. My nostrils look more symmetrical but my nose looks just as big as before. Ugh Updated on 10 Jan 2019: I have mixed feelings about this thing coming off. I'm trying to stay positive and hope this was not all for nothing. I have thick skin and I'm afraid everything will move around after the splint is off. Swelling? That's always been a problem for me especially when I drink or eat salt. I think my nose has tried to swell this week because I feel it throbbing after I eat and at night when I'm in bed but the splint didnt allow it. I hope I heal well and my nose stays put. Updated on 11 Jan 2019: I got my cast off yesterday and was immediately impressed with my new nose. While I wish it wasnt as pudgy at the tip, I feel I could not have asked for a better outcome. Dr. Petroff did not take off too much and I still look like me, just a little better. I will post another update at six weeks post. Updated on 14 Jan 2019: It hasn't been two weeks yet, but I feel very good about my results. My doctor is amazing and I'm very happy. I know it will only get better in time!!!! These photos are 10 and 11 days post............................. ........ Updated on 2 Feb 2019: I'm now four weeks post op and I'm starting to question why I did this. My nose is very upturned which is exactly what I did not want. Someone told me my nose looks like Natalie Dormer's nose and her nose has been compared to a piggy nose. My nose is still very swollen so I'm hoping it will change in the coming months. My tip is very hard and sore. My nose is also very greasy. I see my doc in two weeks and hopefully he tells me the upturn is swelling that will eventually subside. Updated on 13 Mar 2019: I'm almost 10 weeks post op and I'm seeing changes in my nose I'm not happy with. My nose is lopsided and my nostrils are different sizes. I'm hoping that at one year post, I will love it like so many people on this site. Updated on 30 Mar 2019: Like I've said, I'm not 100% happy due to my new nose being asymmetrical and turned up, but I think I look younger and happier. I'm hopeful the asymmetry is due swelling, but I'm doubtful. I appreciate all the support from everyone on realself who has commented. Updated on 18 May 2019: I have my check up with Dr. Petroff next month. Like I said before, overall I'm happy with it but it's not straight and I wish the tip was a little slimmer. I would only have dr. Perroff fix it though if we decide. Updated on 7 Jun 2019: I have very little scarring where my nose was cut. It's hard to tell I even had surgery. Sometimes I peel a little in that area but I also use retinol so not sure about the exact culprit. Dr. Petroff did an amazing job! I see him for my five month post next week... Updated on 25 Aug 2019: Its crazy it has been almost 8 months since my surgery. I'm happy overall, but not in love with my nose. It's still crooked and the tip is bulbous. I'm not sure I want a revision though. I did ask Dr. Petroff for a better version of my own nose and i think that's what i got. Updated on 5 Oct 2019: At 9 mo. post. My nose is still swollen and hard. Sometimes I feel like its growing back! I'm looking forward to the "final result" around one year post. I added some photos in different lighting this time. Updated on 2 Feb 2020: One year came and went on 1/3/20. I saw my doctor last week and he thinks it looks great. I'm not all that happy with it though. I hoped it would be straight but it still curves and my tip is still large. I'm almost 43 now and not sure I want to continue having more surgeries just to look better. My regret is I kept telling my doc I did not want to look like a pig or michael jackson so he went very conservative...I wish I just let him do his magic. Updated on 9 Jul 2021: Thought I would add a couple of recent pics to show what my nose looks like at 2.5 years post op. Not much has changed. But I'm okay with that. ..................................................................................
I can’t even begin to explain how lucky I feel to have found Dr. Petroff. I was searching years for a doctor that I felt confident in their work. After meeting him for the first time, I knew 100% I was comfortable having the surgery done by him. He has a very humble personality for being such an amazing doctor, and he makes you feel confident and comfortable through out the whole process.
Four months ago Dr. Petroff performed my lower facelift and chin implant surgery and in my opinion the experience and results are the finest possible. I’ve had 3 prior plastic surgeries mostly on a congenital body issue. Two of the surgeries successful, and one, a very bad experience. I’m knowledgeable of what can go right, or wrong, with a surgeon. I spent two years researching physicians to perform my facial surgery, consulting with four. I was scared because of my prior bad experience and this surgery was on my face. All the quotes varied only by a few hundred bucks. Why am I so impressed with Dr. Petroff? 1) He’s only performs surgery from the neck up. Why would one trust their face to someone who ‘specializes’ in the whole body? How can you ‘specialize’ in everything? 2) Dr. Petroff is a serious guy. He isn’t the cheer leader type that’s going to convince you that surgery will change your life. He’s re-assuring about what can be done, but he is not going to convince you to do it. He’s patient, kind, quiet and gentle. I think he prefers to under promise and over deliver. 3) His approach to anesthesia. This is at the top of my list. Do not be afraid of the twilight anesthesia. When he says “at times you’ll be awake but you won’t care”, he means it. It was so much easier to get out of my system. I felt great after. Not one unpleasant painful moment during the whole thing. I loved Jeannie his anesthesiologist and wished I could take her home. 4) He consulted with me twice. No Problem. It’s a good thing too, because we decided to change the chin implant type. A decision I absolutely love. Don’t be afraid to talk to him. You must communicate what you are thinking. 5) Dr. Petroff is meticulous in every way. His sutures: Tiny, meticulous and invisible in a month. His staff: You find a team of beautiful, kind gals who operate that office and operating room like a fine tuned Swiss watch. It was quickly notable how Dr. Petroff and this staff had thought of absolutely everything. The experience was so meticulous I actually mentioned it. They were appreciative that I noticed and confirmed, it is in fact, intentional. I loved them all and actually miss them now that it’s over. His office building: It beautiful! The furnishings are stunning! He has a separate waiting room for surgery patients and their family. It really puts you at ease. It’s clear that Dr. Petroff is a successful surgeon and I love that he chooses to reinvest back into his practice and appreciates beautiful surroundings. It tells me, beauty, is a high priority for him. 6) Dr. Petroff sends you home with roses. Who does that? Not one surgeon ever before. A detail and cost not required, but chooses to do it anyway. I can’t say enough about Dr. Petroff and his staff. They do not disappoint! The results are so good!
After reading some of the negative reviews regarding ultherapy I was very hesitant to do it and almost didn't. I have had a fraxel treatment in the past and had other laser treatments without harmful effects so I decided to cross my fingers and try it. I'm so glad I did. It has been 3 weeks and it looks like I had a lower face lift without going through surgery! My neck is so much tighter - the sagging skin under the chin is almost gone. The labial folds around my mouth are so diminished I may not even get the juvederm filler! The procedure under the neck was a little painful. I should have taken 2 pain pills before I had it done but only took one. However the pain lasts only a short time and the results were well worth it - far better than surgery! My cost was a package special that included juvederm, botox and a couple of chemical peels. I think the procedure without the extras was about $4000. However, if you're looking for a little tightening I would fully recommend this.
Last doctor left my tip drooping without any support and it felt like my nose was hardly attached after 4.5 years. Consequently, I had a nice BEAK when previous to the tip rhinoplasty my profile was mostly straight. Now, after Dr. Petroff's artistry, my profile and tip are more refined, straight, perky, tip is supported, and IT FEELS ATTACHED quickly after surgery! What a blessing, and SO worth it! Dr. Petroff knows his craft!
I have hated my nose since I was a teenager. I have an fraternal twin sister who ended up with my mother's cute little nose, while I got my dad's schnoz (as he likes to call it). I always thought that someday I would do it and then, after series of life changing events, I decided that time was now at 28 years old. I began looking around for surgeons in the Portland area, reading reviews, etc, but was having trouble picking which one would be the best. Its hard to trust someone you don't know with your face, no matter how great their reviews may be. Then my long time childhood friend took the plunge and got the procedure done by one of the surgeons I had been looking at. Her results looked fantastic. Not too much, not too little, so I made the consultation appointment. My advice when going into a consult is to have as many questions as you can think of already written down. Make sure you know exactly what you want to be different about your nose so you can communicate that with your surgeon, so you get the best results. They will tell you if its doable or not. I went in wanting two things but after discussing the it with the doctor decided on three major changes: taking away the width from the bridge (my bridge was abnormally wide), making the bridge shorter and then my doctor suggested changing the tip so it wasn't pointed down so much, which I agreed with but not until he pointed it out. One good piece of advice he gave me to pass on is: almost always have an open procedure. If you don't the tip of your nose will not look right. Its very rare to change the bridge with out slightly altering the tip and having it look balanced. I scheduled the surgery for December 10th (just yesterday!) and even though I am still in the beginning stages of recovery I am so glad I did it. Here are some things to consider that I didn't at first: -Anesthesia: if they give you an option go for the twilight anesthesia, its less risky. I was scared to do it this way at first but actually preferred it to general. I didn't feel sick and I could leave 30min after my procedure was done. -Have someone that will take care of you for at least the first 24 if not 48 ( my twin sis was so helpful, I wouldn't have made it through that first day with out her). She changed all my nose "dressings," made me food and got me ice. - Make sure you get all your loose ends tied up before surgery: clean your house, pay bills, get tons of movies, easy to make food, etc. -Go into it knowing that having a couple days in which is feel depressed or regretful of your choice is totally normal. -Ice, ice, ice! I don't think my face would be so swollen had I iced more in the beginning. Its one of those things you have to stay ahead of Now that I am almost two days post surgery I am finally feeling a little less zombie like. My eyes are incredible black and swollen but I went in for my first post op visit and the doctor said that it was fine. He said that some people get all of their bleeding and swelling all at once, while other people have it come on later. Even though the cast is still on, I can tell its so much smaller!!! I am so excited and will post pictures when my face calms down. Updated on 12 Dec 2012: Also: My surgeon offered a vitamin program for surgery/trauma that helped so much. It was $100 but worth it! If yours does not the main two that helped were: Arnica Montana 30X HPUS and Bromelain w/ Quercetin Updated on 13 Dec 2012: Thursday Dec 13th: Day Four So far so good! Not too much pain BUT I am having a lot of trouble sleeping because I have to keep my head elevated. I went out in public yesterday, to the movie store, and felt very self conscious. The employee did a double take. Yet I am getting soooo restless. Tonight my girlfriends are coming over for a board game night, thank god, because being cooped up is driving me nuts! Updated on 14 Dec 2012: Friday Dec 14th 2012 I am finally sleeping! But I am having the terrible "cabin fever!" One can only deep clean their house so many times before there is nothing left to do. I wish I would have stocked up on baking supplies! I would be making holiday cookie platters, if only.....:) Updated on 17 Dec 2012: Monday Dec 17th I just got my cast off!!!! Getting the stitches our was more painful than I had anticipated but overall not too bad. I love my new nose!! It's still VERY swollen but I think it will be perfect in a few more weeks/months. I was so excited when I saw it I cried a little:) Updated on 19 Dec 2012: Wed Dec 19th, Going on day 10 since surgery. Overall I am very happy with the results. I know that the tip is still very swollen and will change I just wish it was faster! I've been running around a lot with holiday shopping and I have noticed that my nose gets irritated if I'm "over doing it." The tip is still numb and to me it kind of looks like a "nose job" nose, but I am sure that will decrease with time. So far my friends seem to like it. I've had a few say that it was subtle, which I'm not sure how to take yet. One of my nostrils is slightly smaller than the other, which I am hoping will change. One side of my nasal passages is much more swollen than the other so I am attributing it to that. So far so good! Updated on 5 Jan 2013: Jan 5th 2013 Everything is almost back to normal. No more uneven nostrils and most of the dissolvable stitches are gone. Its finally looking less swollen which is a huge relief. I can already feel my confidence improving when I went out for new years! Updated on 10 Feb 2013: Feb 10th, 2013 It's officially month two to the day! So far I love it. It takes at least a month and a half to look normal. I wish I would have known that going into it. But now that's less swollen and getting definition, I absolutely LOVE it! Updated on 10 Jun 2014: Hello! It's been 1 and a half years since I had my procedure. I am happy with the results. I can honestly say that it took 1 solid year to get definition in the tip of my nose and for everything to settle. Given the large amount of time, one thing to consider that has been an issue: 1. How will your new nose fit with the shape of your face? I had an usual long space between my nose and lip. I never noticed with my old nose because it was much longer. Having a procedure in which they shorten your nose will cause this space to be much more prominent. If I could do it all over again I would have left more length on the end of my nose and not and the small slope that I did get. I think the work is great. I would have had my nose set in a way that it was straight instead of slightly curved. This at least provides a shadow for that area and less nostril exposure. Just some things I would have like to consider going in. Overall though, it is one of the BEST decisions I have ever made and I feel so much more comfortable in my skin. Good luck everyone!
Thank you for the question. You are certainly not alone feeling self conscious about your profile. This is without question the most common concern among patients considering rhinoplasty. You could definitely benefit from rhinoplasty to de-project your nasal tip and reduce the height of the bridge, or dorsum. In addition, a small anatomic chin implant may enhance your overall appearance by giving better balance to the lower third of your face. While you are not that concerned about the appearance of your nose from the frontal view, I believe that your tip appears broad and that refinement in this area will be of benefit to you as well. I recommend consulting with facial plastic surgeons who specialize in rhinoplasty and to critically evaluate before and after photographs of patients who have undergone similar procedures. Good Luck!
Ultherapy should not be performed over superficially lying facial nerve branches due to the risk of nerve injury from excessive heat created by the device. Secondary facelift surgery in the hands of a skilled and experienced facial plastic surgeon will give you the desired outcome you are looking for with no significant increased risk of facial nerve injury, even in light of your past parotidectomy. I have performed numerous facelifts in patients with your history with no injury to the facial nerve. Consult an experienced facial plastic surgeon to discuss your best option.
Open rhinoplasty will give you the best opportunity to achieve your desired results, specifically straightening as well as creating a more aesthetically appealing, feminine nasal contour. Correcting a deviated septum concurrently will aid in improving any breathing difficulties as well as be integral to achieving a much straighter nose. Consultation with an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon is key to reaching your ultimate goal.
Judging from the photos, it appears that your nose is slightly prominent both with respect to the dorsum as well as the tip. Also, the tip droops or is under-rotated, which gives the illusion that your columella is retracted. Finally, the base of the columella, as well as the tip, is deviated slightly to the right side indicating a minor dislocation of the base of your septum. The good news is that repositioning the caudal septum combined with de-projection and slight rotation of the tip will significantly improve the appearance of your nose. The dorsum will likely require a minor reduction as well to allow better aesthetic balance between the bridge and tip. It should be noted that these changes require advanced techniques that should only be trusted to an experienced facial plastic surgeon who performs revision rhinoplasty on a frequent basis.
As stated before, it's best to consult the surgeon that performed the operation with questions such as these. He/she will be able to offer the best advice as they know your anatomy best!Mark Petroff, M.D., FACS
