Is there a reason why one cannot only put 1mls syringe of saline into 100 units of botox?

Is there a reason why one cannot only put 1mls syringe of saline into 100 units of botox so that each line on the syringe equals to 1 unit of botox. I don't understand why the recommendation is for more. Won't it accomplish the same thing? thanks

Every time a syringe is filled with botox, there is dead space in between the plunger of the syringe and the tip of the needle. If the reconstitution of 100 units is only with one cc, there would be many units lost in the dead space of the syringe. Additionally, I feel there would be a less accurate and precise treatment. When you dilute botox, you get more spread (so if you want to cover a wider field but not necessarily with that many pokes). It also allows you to have better control in certain areas as oftentimes pushing "1 line" or 1 tick on the syringe is physically difficult to do, compared to pushing 2+. It also depends on dosage. Sometimes it is only indicated for very dilute forms in certain areas.

Botox needs to be reconstituted before use.  The amount of solution used for this will vary by injector and her/his preference during treatment.  This will help them to best control product placement to get the desired result.

In Canada, most dermatologists actually prefer to put 1ml of saline in a 100u vial of Botox so there is less spread and less swelling (which means less pain). I have been doing so for over 17 years with terrific, precise & painless results.

There is no correct or incorrect way to reconstitute your botox/neurotoxin. As long as the person that is injecting the neuromodulator is aware of how reconstituted and knows how many units /1 or 0.1 cc etc, they can do this however they like. Different ways of reconstituting will allow the injector to use the same tool in a bit of a different way so some people might do differently for different patients or for different areas of use.
