Is it safe to have Vbeam done on your face for rosacea if you are currently taking doxycycline?

I am on doxycycline 50 mgs once a day for ocular Rosacea. I have facial Rosacea, just redness and painful burning on nose, cheeks, etc. I saw a dermatologist who said the only thing that may work for me is the Vbeam. If so, how long should I discontinue doxycycline before a Vbeam session? I heard you are even more sensitive with the doxy in your system. I am super pale and fair, except for the redness. I also have very sensitive skin, which is why I'm hesitant to get the laser procedure done.

Doxycycline is a medication that can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so you are likely taking precautions already to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.The Vbeam uses laser energy and not UV light, so it should not significantly increase your sun sensitivity. There are no other contraindications to having the Vbeam treatment when you are taking Doxycycline. Make sure you are working with a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist that is aware of all medications you are currently taking to ensure your procedure is both safe and successful.

I appreciate your concern and agree Vbeam would be an excellent procedure to help you manage your rosacea. Doxycycline makes your face more sensitive to sunlight, which is why you need to be very careful to protect your skin while you are taking the medication. However, Vbeam emits laser energy, which does not affect sensitive skin the same way. In fact, the combination of the medication and treatment might provide you with even better results.

Thank you for your question, Doxycycline can make your skin more sensitive to sun and light. That being said, these treatments are not UV in nature and thus won’t create a heightened sensitivity. This would be fine and is of course at the discretion of the doctor.
