Top lip done yesterday, injected with a full syringe. Why is it swollen and badly bruised?

I also have a small lump which I have been massaging however will all this calm down? I only wanted a half a syringe but was advised that 1syringe won't be massive on my lips as they are not small to begin with

Thank you for the question. Could you send a photo as this would make it easier to assess.
The good news is that there are steps that can be taken to reduce the swelling.  I advise my patients to ice the area for up to 10 minutes every hour.  Reusable ice packs can be used or a bag of frozen peas can be used to mold over the area.  A short course of steroid can accelerate the healing process.  Anectotally, Arnica forte can be used to prevent bruising, but no definitive evidence exists to suggest that is always successful.  If the swelling does not subside then hyaluronic acid based fillers can be depolymerized (dissolved) with injection of hyaluronidase.
It would be best to contact your treating practitioner to seek advice going forward.  I hope this helps.

It is not abnormal to have some swelling right after lip augmentation with filler. I would avoid massaging the lump, and visit your injector for a follow up if the lump is still present when the swelling has resolved. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for the question. The lips are very sensitive and swell significantly even with minor trauma (we've all bumped our faces on a door or cabinet, right?).  Thus , with lip injections, you have to expect 48-72 hours of swelling. This can be treated with ice, Arnica Montana gel, and bromelain (eat some pineapple).  Be careful with massaging too much -- this can make bruising worse or change the placement of the filler.  Lastly, if you are truly unhappy, go back to your surgeon. There is an enzyme that can be used to dissolve the filler.
