My 8 year old son has lot of hairs on his arms and legs. When is the right age for hair removal and what method would be best?

We did the hormones testing ( find FSH ratio etc) everything seems to be normal. Doctor advised it is hereditary ( may genetic). Need to know from the doctor panel, is it possible to remove hairs on arms and legs using laser treatment. He is 8 years old now, is it the right age. Or is there is other method to get rid of these hairs.

Laser hair removal at a dermatology clinic is very safe, and generally we would consider this after age 12 when an adolescent understands the treatment, wants it (not just their parents), and can tolerate a bit of discomfort. A diode or Nd:YAG laser is a great option. The light sheer duet laser (we have extensive experience with this) is particularly effective, although other systems can help too. Most importantly, seek treatment at a medical clinic such as a dermatologist's office to get optimal results and safety.

Is your child different from the other members of his family? I think we tend to look like our parents. I also don't think that hair on the arms and legs is necessary to treat. Some families are hairier than others. This is not a sign of any endocrine problem so I am not sure why the tests were done.Just my two cents,Beverly Johnson MD
